As many person, I appreciate pireps from those with experience with shops you use (whether positive or negative) and love to spread my experience to the deliberation over others too. After a so-so experience during a recent avionics install, I came across myself searching for an alternate avenue for the installing a whole new transponder for ADS-B compliance. I called two local shops first. The price of one am high that we actually busted out laughing on the telephone like I were at a comedy bar. He was apparently much less amused while i. I was telling the storyplot of my local quote to a friend on the airport and the man recommended that I call John Stark at Stark Avionics for the quote. In doing my research ahead of calling John, I browsed Mooneyspace and BT for pireps around the shop. In doing so, I ran across a totally terrible pirep on Stark Avionics. (Search in BT if you need to read it). This pirep caused me serious worry about getting in touch with call Stark for any quote.
I posted a general query for recommendations on an avionics shop and received another recommendation for Stark from another MSer (Oldguy). He and that i spoke in reference to his knowledge of Stark and i also decided to give John a phone call in line with the two recommendations I received from trusted sources. I was open with John regarding my concerns relating to the negative pirep on MS and the fact that I had been gun shy using the previous experience. As they always say, there's two sides to every single story and John took his time for it to explain his side if you ask me at all like me certain are experts in prepared to apply someone else who would like to phone him in that way. Our conversation shifted from the pirep to pricing. John and i also discussed different equipment options, what would be perfect for my needs/wants and also the predetermined fee installed price for each and every option. We ultimately made a decision to install the Stratus ESGi for ADS-B in/out. John quoted me a soft price, but was in advance that this number could possibly be slightly higher if your tray was riveted in (as many Mooneys are). I went to edinburgh airport that night, took pictures and confirmed that my trays were attached with screws and forwarded those pictures to John. John responded really timely manner and confirmed the predetermined fee price for the equipment and install on paper so we scheduled the install date and pickup date. The plane was to be delivered the Sunday after Thanksgiving. John said however have everything else but ready by Tuesday, however opted to schedule the pickup for Wednesday in the event there have been some snags on the way.
